Maribeth Malecky

Maribeth is interested in working with motivated people, who don't mind hard work for their own satisfaction and well-being. She has worked with a variety of people of all ages, from elite and novice ice dancers; to athletic teams; and to people coping with chronic illness and injury recovery. As Maribeth continues to work through injuries from being struck by a car while riding her bike 11 months ago, she hopes to encourage those facing any type of hurdle, to persevere and enjoy a healthier life.

Competitive Highlights

Maribeth was a competitive swimmer for 14 years, beginning when she broke her arms as a 7 year old (rehab!) and ending at the University of Vanderbilt.  She was on the fastest 400 free relay in the nation and All-American multiple times over in high school, in addition to being a two-time state champion and two time runner-up. While swimming for Vanderbilt, Maribeth set school records for three relays and the individual 200 freestyle; in addition to being a member of an NCAA II 800 free relay team that finished as  runner up.  More recently Maribeth has been competing as an Olympic distance, All-American triathlete.

Coaching

Maribeth has coached swimming teams since she was in high school, including Summer League, Special Olympic and Paralympic swimmers.  As the head coach at the International School of Kenya (ISK) in Nairobi, for 4 years, Maribeth built a national champion swim team, in addition to having several swimmers qualify to swim high level meets in various African countries, including South Africa.

Related Life Experiences

As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal, Maribeth began running on her own to the village behind where she lived.  Gradually, she had a sizeable group of women and girls running with her a couple of times per week, which was quite empowering in that culture.

While living in Nairobi, Maribeth began conducting dry land training with the ISK swimmers.  She also trained a group of women at her local gym in Nairobi.  This was the start of Maribeth’s personal training career, which she formalized when she returned to the United States.
